Building Physics is an increasingly important research area, essential to the development of energy efficient and comfortable buildings. The 2009 Royal Academy of Engineering report “Engineering a low carbon built environment: The discipline of Building Engineering Physics” recommends Building Physics should be a core part of all civil, structural and architectural degree courses. In addition the interface between buildings and urban environment and infrastructures will play an increasingly important role in the future and yet this is a field that is poorly researched and understood.
As a UAF in Building Physics, you will further develop capability in this area at Leeds, complementing and building on substantial expertise in ventilation of buildings, low energy cooling systems, indoor air quality and energy in the built environment. You will have an excellent research track record in computational and/or experimental research in any aspect of Building Physics. You will develop your own research in this area, and you will work collaboratively with other researchers at Leeds and elsewhere to lead cross-discipline and innovative studies on the future built environment. In particular it is likely that you will work closely with researchers in other schools at Leeds engaged in energy-related research. You will benefit from access to High Performance Computing facilities and computational modelling software as well as recent Faculty investment in experimental facilities.
