Securing the productivity of crops in the face of population pressure and climate change is one of the major challenges facing the world today. An important aspect of this is reducing plant/crop disease. You will engage in research in the area of Plant Virology, bridging two research strengths in the Faculty of Biological Sciences at Leeds; virology and plant sciences. Applicants in any aspect of plant virology are encouraged to apply, including plant-virus interactions, virus movement in plants and the use of plants or viruses as experimental systems for biotechnological applications.
You will have significant proven research experience within plant sciences/virology and will have a coherent vision for the future development of a research programme in the context of existing research strengths in virology and plant sciences.
A proven record of achievement in international quality publications is essential to contribute to the University’s ambition to excel at REF2020. In addition, the candidate will provide research supervision and attract research students to the University and undertake a teaching load deemed appropriate by the Head of School, which will be significantly reduced in the first years of the fellowship.
