The School houses a unique combination of four disciplinary areas: Fine Art, History of Art, Cultural Studies and Museum/Gallery/Heritage Studies. We are committed to encouraging work across our constituent disciplines, our research and teaching structured to offer unique combinations of theory, history and practice (studio and curatorial).
As a member of academic research staff you will develop a research profile with a sustained record of internationally recognised projects, exhibitions and publications. Working with the already established research groups, but potentially leading a research group of your own, you will be expected to make a major contribution to our research environment that will contribute to the University’s ambition to excel at REF2020.
You will also be expected to collaborate with the Culture, Society and Innovation Hub research and cross-faculty initiatives. We are currently extending our well established partnerships with exciting and innovative art spaces in the region, including The Hepworth Wakefield and The Tetley, Leeds and you will help lead on this activity. You will lead on our partnership with the Hepworth to maximise the potential of The Hepworth’s Calder building as a location for graduates to develop professional practice, employability and enterprise skills, securing external income through partnership.
You will contribute to our established BA in Fine Art as well as teaching on the new undergraduate degrees in Fine Art with Museum & Gallery Studies, Fine Art with History of Art and the MA in Arts Management with Heritage Studies as well as the co-supervision of PhD students. You will lead on the development, planning and sustainability of an in-house gallery as part of the relocation of the whole School onto a single site in 2016.
You would also be expected to submit grant applications for a personal fellowship (e.g. an AHRC early-career Fellowship; Leverhulme Fellowship; Horizon 2020) and small individual or networking research grants as well as work with colleagues across the school in submitting larger grants.
You will have significant proven research experience within the fields of fine art and curating and the ability to teach at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate level, as well as a clear and compelling vision for personal academic development.
