The study of biogeochemical cycling of tropical forest ecosystems is a key strength of the Ecology and Global Change (EGC) research cluster of the School of Geography and this fellowship will preferably extend this work to different ecosystems and/or employ different measurement techniques to address questions related to identifying and quantifying sources and sinks of greenhouse gases. We will consider outstanding applicants from across the field and particularly encourage applications for Fellows working in Tropical Ecology & Biogeochemical Cycling.
You will be expected to link closely with the extensive ground-based data sets led by EGC, and/or our tree-by-tree level, ecosystem-level, and atmospheric flux modelling skills, and so allow questions related to the sensitivity of tropical ecosystems to climate change to be addressed at regional and pan-tropical scales.
Supported by a team of highly successful former Fellows, you will be encouraged to attract significant research funding and develop a research profile that will contribute to the University’s ambition to excel at REF2020, with a sustained record of internationally excellent (and some world-leading) publications and a strong record of presentations at international conferences. You will also add to the breadth of teaching within the Geography BSc curriculum and would be expected to develop an innovative teaching portfolio at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
With a PhD in a Geoscience field like Ecology, Climate Science, Environmental Science, Biology and you will have a strong research record in this field – we particularly encourage applications from those working in Tropical Ecology and Biogeochemical Cycling, (we will prioritise candidates who EITHER bring new field-based measurement techniques, OR whose specialism is in remote sensing of ecological processes). You will also have the ability to teach at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate level, as well as a clear and compelling vision for personal academic development.
