In recent years, World Literatures has emerged as a key theme in the teaching and research being done by literary scholars on the way texts, motifs and styles circulate globally; global markets and systems of production and distribution; global cultures of translation and reception; and ‘global grammars’ of cosmopolitanism, memory, and trauma.
You will develop a research profile in this theme that will contribute to the University’s ambition to excel at REF2020, with a sustained record of internationally excellent (and some world-leading) publications and a strong record of presentations at international conferences. Acting as catalyst for collaboration across the Faculty of Arts, in partnership with your mentor you will build local collaborations, organise seminars with international speakers, and network internationally at conferences. You will also co-supervise PhDs and work on and further develop the Joint Honours in Comparative Literature (World Literatures) BA programme run jointly with the School of English. You will also be expected to submit grant applications for a personal fellowship (e.g. an AHRC early-career Fellowship; Leverhulme Fellowship; Horizon 2020) and small individual or networking research grants as well as work with colleagues across the Schools in the Faculty to submit larger grants.
You will have significant proven research experience within the field of comparative literature or World Literatures, the ability to teach at both Undergraduate level on the Comparative Literature (World Literatures) BA, on literary modules taught in one or more of the constituent language sections of the School of Languages and Cultures, and at Postgraduate level, as well as a clear and compelling vision for personal academic development.
