Holders of External Fellowships – Synthetic Biology

Synthetic biology is a nascent field in which engineering principles are applied to deliver novel devices and systems comprising biologically-based parts.  The approach involves both the development of new tools, and their subsequent application to address specific problems.  Based in the School of Chemistry you will drive the development of synthetic biology research at Leeds by exploiting existing strengths in bionanoscience, protein engineering and biophysics in the Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology.

You will develop new tools for synthetic biology and a collaborative programme in which synthetic biology is applied to problems in e.g. targeted drug delivery and diagnostics.

You will have a superb track record in the development and exploitation of synthetic biology tools.  You will develop a research profile that will contribute to the University’s ambition to excel at REF2020, with a sustained record of internationally excellent (and some world-leading) publications.

You also will be expected to submit grant applications for research support, and to work with colleagues across the University and beyond to submit larger grants. You will already have a substantial fellowship that supports your work, or be a candidate for such a fellowship.

You will also participate strongly in the development and delivery of relevant educational material/programmes at undergraduate, Masters and PhD level.

You will have a personal fellowship in synthetic biology (e.g. EPSRC Early Career, BBSRC David Phillips, ERC Starting or Consolidator), hold a PhD and have significant proven research experience within the field of synthetic biology (including evidence of research leadership appropriate to the career stage e.g. lead authorship of significant publications, ability to attract independent funding), the ability to teach at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate level, and a clear and compelling vision for personal academic development.
