The growth fields of medical and environmental humanities are ones in which the School and Faculty are developing significant reputations. Both areas have seen major successes in grant capture through HERA, AHRC and WUN initiatives in recent years, involving colleagues from across the School working in different historical periods and drawing on cross-Faculty and Interdisciplinary work in the Leeds Environmental Humanities Initiative, the Institute for Colonial and Postcolonial Studies and the Leeds Centre for Medical Humanities. The School aims to build on these successes by appointing a Fellow working in or across these two subject areas.
You will develop a research profile that will contribute to the University’s ambition to excel at REF2020, with a sustained record of internationally excellent (and some world-leading) publications and a strong record of presentations at international conferences. Acting as catalyst for collaboration across the Faculty, in partnership with your mentor you will organise seminars with international speakers, network internationally at conferences, and build local collaborations. You will also co-supervise PhDs and work on and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the School of English. You will also be expected to submit grant applications for a personal fellowship (e.g. an AHRC early-career Fellowship; Leverhulme Fellowship; Horizon 2020) and small individual or networking research grants as well as work with colleagues across the schools to submit larger grants.
You will have significant proven research experience within the field of Environmental and/or Medical Humanities within the field of English studies, the ability to teach at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate level, as well as a clear and compelling vision for personal academic development.
