Nutrition and Health

Food and health is a major focus for research activity and economic investment at the University of Leeds. It is also a government priority area for healthy living. Research in this area in Leeds is based in the internationally renowned Human Appetite Research Unit (HARU), established in Leeds in 1990 and which is recognised as the leading centre for appetite research in the UK.

You will have access to the unique resources in HARU, contributing significantly to our academic activities that are centred around health and wellbeing across the lifespan. Current areas of focus include: infant and child feeding behaviour for the development of healthy food choice and eating patterns; the disrupting effect of stress in people’s lives and how metabolic changes and diet can impair cognition and action; obesity, diabetes and metabolic syndrome and the alleviation of these conditions through technology-based behaviour change.

We are seeking a high calibre individual with a research vision which complements existing methodological and scientific capacity with clear health outcomes to provide high impact evidence-based knowledge. You will enhance research-led teaching related to the theme of Nutrition and Health by the supervision of postgraduate research students, contribution to Masters programmes in Psychology and supervision of undergraduate research projects. You will also be expected to develop collaborative links with colleagues within the Human Appetite Research Unit, the School of Psychology and the wider University, to benefit from the interdisciplinary potential offered within Leeds.

You must have significant, proven research experience within the field of nutrition and health or be able to demonstrate how their current research experience could be applied to this field. The post is open to applicants with backgrounds in Psychology, Health, Nutrition and allied areas. You must also be highly motivated, have a demonstrable ability to teach at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate level and have a clear and compelling vision to support the development of their research ideas and to build an academic career in the field of Nutrition and Health within the HARU and more widely.
