Health Engineering is an area of strategic importance within the Faculty of Medicine & Health, with existing strengths built on successful cross-disciplinary collaborations with the physical and biological sciences. It is supported by external infrastructure funding for the Wellcome Trust Centre of Excellence in Medical Engineering, the EPSRC Innovation and Knowledge Centre, and the NIHR Healthcare Technology Cooperative in Colorectal Therapies, with links to the EPSRC Robotics Manufacturing Facility, and Leeds NIHR Diagnostic Evaluation Centre (DEC) in biomarker discovery. There is a strong emphasis on engineering, nanotechology, and biosensing, which underpins many of the research activities. Other related areas include quantum dots for imaging, computer vision, early clinical trials, and health informatics. We are also looking to enhance our research in Surgical Training to address fundamental questions around issues related to human learning and the training of dental as well as laparoscopic surgeons. Clinical translation is facilitated by excellent links with commercial partners, a world-class Clinical Trials Unit, our Wellcome Trust funded Dental Translational & Clinical Research Unit and broad expertise in health economics. We are looking to recruit highly motivated individuals with excellent research profiles who are capable of developing and leading innovative research projects aligned to existing strengths in Health Engineering. The fellowships will appeal to a broad range of candidates from the physical, biological, and health sciences, including those with interests in dental surgery, but focused on developing and translating innovative clinical solutions.

If you are clinically qualified these Fellowships provide an opportunity to develop on your existing academic experience and establish a clinical academic career. The nature of individual clinical / academic workload profiles will be determined by your current level of specialist training and agreement with our local NHS organisations, with whom we work in close partnership. We actively encourage applications from specialty trainee level to those who already hold specialist registration.
University Grade 8 (£38,511 to £45,954)
For clinical academic posts remuneration will be on the appropriate clinical academic scale (dependent upon individual clinical experience / qualification and therefore the level of Honorary Clinical Contract).
